Three days after the Las Vegas attack, the ALERRT office received an email from one of our senior adjunct instructors, Tim Williams.  He wrote: Just letting you know myself and Chris Forbis with Randall County (Texas) Sheriffs Office taught an Avoid Deny Defend class to an Amarillo, Texas energy company a few weeks ago. One of the women in the class was in Las Vegas at the shooting. She called today, and thanked us, telling us that she felt what she learned in the class helped her make the correct decisions, which in turn allowed her to survive the shooting. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course is a FREE 2-hour seminar designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004. CRASE provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. The FBI considers ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Reponse Training) the national standard for active shooter events. CRASE is a lecture-based course geared towards civilians and coincides with ALERRT material. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of professional guardians, civilian response options, medical issues, and drills.  Because there has been a high demand for the instruction of this course, the department wanted to host the CRASE course and make it available to EVERYONE in the community. Bring your friends and family.  You must RSVP to attend. Only RSVP if you are certain you can commit to attending due to a limited number of registrants.  Those under 18 years of age may attend with a parent/guardian. Parental discretion is advised.
